Iguana Abroad is a Spanish immersion program in Mexico with one simple aim: to help you master Spanish — or learn from scratch — through real engagement with Mexican culture, the country’s natural beauty, and meaningful social connections.
Our programs combine intensive daily Spanish lessons with carefully designed cultural immersion experiences. Participants enjoy diverse midweek activities such as salsa dancing, Mexican cooking classes, and Aztec ceramic workshops, alongside weekend group excursions to some of Mexico’s most fascinating cultural destinations.
Iguana Abroad offers the option to stay in homestay accommodation with local Mexican families — the most authentic way to experience full Spanish immersion. For those who prefer greater independence, private accommodation options are also available.

Over nine years ago, we arrived in Mexico and quickly realised we didn’t want to leave. The food, the landscapes, the culture, the people, and the year-round climate make Mexico an extraordinary place to live and learn Spanish.
Our mission is simple: to share this remarkable country through immersive Spanish learning experiences that help students build real language confidence while discovering the true heart of Mexico.

The Iguana Abroad Spanish immersion program in Mexico stands out for its practical, results-driven approach to language learning. We combine daily, personally tailored Spanish lessons taught by native-speaking instructors with real cultural immersion — giving you constant opportunities to practice Spanish in authentic, real-world situations.
Our programs include structured language exchanges, carefully designed midweek cultural events, and guided weekend trips across Mexico, ensuring that learning continues far beyond the classroom.
Unlike many Spanish courses in Mexico, Iguana Abroad guarantees that participants progress at least one level on the CEFR scale (the internationally recognised framework for language proficiency) during each two-week program.

Meet the Team
Harry Liuba-Carmichael
Harry has been involved in language learning and teaching his whole life, with a dedication that led him all the way to a master's degree in Russian from the University of Oxford. That said, it was only a few days after his graduation that he was back again on the Mexican Caribbean with a 'cerveza' in his hand.
Harry Chamberlain
Holding a degree in English Literature as well as the language teaching certificates 'TEFL' and 'CELTA' Harry has let his passion for language and education take him around the world - although after visiting Mexico for the third time he just couldn't leave, he loved it too much!
Fabiola Sánchez Quiroz
Fabiola is a local artist who grew up between the Mexican towns of Cuernavaca and Tepoztlán. She knows Mexico better than anyone on the team and is in charge of our Spanish Immersion scheduling - ensuring our students have the most diverse and authentic time possible while they are here!
